March Member of the Month Spotlight – Amber Mayes

I am so excited to announce that the March Member of the Month is Amber Mayes!

 

Amber has been with Forever Fit SCV for two and a half years and has been super consistent since she started.  She was brought in by her mom, starting during one of our challenges and has never looked back.  Amber is always striving to make changes to her health using exercise and has a passion for training and running.

 

She is always up for a challenge and has a big can-do attitude that has allowed her to be successful over the long-term. Whether it’s sandbag clean and presses, suspended pull-ups or barbell dead lifts, Amber digs in, works hard and excels like crazy. On top of all that, she loves to run! She’s done a bunch of 5k’s and 10k’s and continues to find ways to challenge herself.

 

Amber has a smile that lights up the gym! She is always super positive, cheers others on and let’s her light shine on those around her. No matter what we’re doing at the gym, no matter what’s going on at work, she always brings a positive attitude and a smile to the training session!

 

We love Amber’s positive outlook on life, her ‘glass half full’ attitude if you will and we are so proud of what Amber continues to accomplish.  We were able to able to catch up with her to find out how and why she’s been so successful and here’s what she had to say:

Craig: Why did you start training at Forever Fit SCV?

Amber: I started training at Forever Fit SCV for two reasons. The first reason was that I wasn’t getting the results I wanted with my workouts.  I had always been pretty active. I played soccer as a kid and teenager and I started running consistently when I went to college. I went to LA Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness in the past, but never truly stuck with any workout routine. I never knew how to work the machines and I truly only felt comfortable with cardio. I started to see unfavorable results in my body and I wanted to make a change that I knew I could commit too.

The second reason was my mom. My mom really was my inspiration to workout at Forever Fit SCV. She knew my workout struggles and suggested that I come try a few workouts at Forever Fit SCV. I had just moved back to Santa Clarita and I really didn’t want to keep working out at La Fitness! I went to a few classes and realized that this is something I could get on board with. After completing and getting pretty good results in the 2015 Back to School Challenge, I knew this was the place for me.

 

Craig: What has made you so successful at Forever Fit SCV?

Amber: I think the fact that 3 other people in my family train at Forever Fit SCV has been helpful to my success. Also, I enjoy the positive vibe at Forever Fit SCV. I never feel like I’m being judged or that I am not good enough to workout here.


Craig: What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome during your fitness transformation?

Amber: My biggest obstacle has definitely been healthy eating.  Like I said, I have always been pretty active, but I was never seeing the results I wanted. I really needed to come to the hard truth that the food I put into my body was my problem. I want to treat my body with the respect it deserves and I know that maintaining a healthy lifestyle will benefit me for the rest of my life.


Craig:
What advice would you offer to others who are just starting out on their fitness journey or have hit a road-block?

Amber: The advice that I would offer to others who are just starting their fitness journey is to remember that everyone was once a beginner. It’s important not to make impossible goals, but to be proud of every small step in the right direction. 

The best advice I would give to someone that has hit a roadblock is that roadblocks are part of life. I honestly can’t think of anything that I’ve done in my life that truly matters where I haven’t had some kind of setback. Everything in life is temporary and people should remember that every day is a new day. I always see the best results when I maintain a positive attitude and when I remember to love myself.

 

Craig: What drives you to ‘KEEP MAKIN’ CHANGES’?

Amber: I am still driven to ‘KEEP MAKIN’ CHANGES’ because, through the help of everyone at Forever Fit SCV, I have proven to myself that I am capable of what I put my mind to.  Before Forever Fit SCV, I was never able to maintain a consistent workout routine or diet plan. I always gave up and accepted the fact that I just couldn’t do it. However, I have made great progress physically and mentally as a result of working out at Forever Fit SCV and that is all the inspiration I need to keep going.
