April Member of the Month Spotlight – Lisa Kimura

I am so excited to announce that the April Member of the Month is Lisa Kimura!

 

Lisa has been with Forever Fit SCV for almost 2 years now and has been an inspiration to those around her since she’s started.  Whether she’s running half marathons (or her usual 10 miles on Sundays), training or creating costumes/dresses, she always gives her best with a giant smile on her face.

 

If you have ever had trained with or around Lisa, you know she is going to keep you on your toes with her witty comments or the occasional lion’s roar!  She is always striving to be better than she was the day before and will settle for nothing less.

 

I am so proud of what she has accomplished so far, but I know that the best is yet to come.

 

Here’s what Lisa had to say about why she’s been so successful with Forever Fit SCV:

Craig: Why did you start training at Forever Fit SCV?

Lisa:  I had been a runner (jogger) for many years, active with the Santa Clarita runners club and got tired of wondering what was going to hurt next.  I knew jogging was only working selected muscles and many were being neglected, but I denied that for a long time and just told myself I needed to run more.  –   I love the family relations I had developed through the running club and was excited to hear that the same might exist in a small strength training model as well.  A coworker mentioned the group and invited me to attend.  It took only one session with Craig and the small group and I was hooked.

 

Craig: What has made you so successful at Forever Fit SCV?

Lisa: Making the commitment to come consistently 3 times a week – no matter – what has made me successful.  But that wasn’t hard to do because I love it here.  This is truly “me” time.

Craig: What is the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome during your fitness transformation?

Lisa: My biggest obstacle has been trying to fit it into my work schedule.   I tried the 7:00 but that was hard on my home life (no kids, just a husband who isn’t part of the FF family ☹ but still a good guy ☺.)   So I had to adjust my work schedule to make it to the 5:15 session.  And if I miss that then it’s the 5am schedule the next day :/! It’s sometimes rushed but it feels great to get it done whatever the time.

 

Craig: What advice would you offer to others who are just starting out on their fitness journey or have hit a road block?

Lisa: Don’t give up. It takes time, just have fun with it and do your best.

 

Craig: What drives you to ‘KEEP MAKIN’ CHANGES’?

Lisa: First, the thought of getting older is a driving force in itself. Sometimes I think I’m fighting off those years.  And of course Craig is such an awesome motivator, and a great teacher as well.  But most of all – it’s the “family” at FF that keeps me so committed.  Knowing that I get to see a friend and someone will be glad to see me at class makes all the difference to me.  You don’t get that with a regular gym membership. ; On the morning of my daughter’s recent wedding day my friend Brenda texted me that during the class that day someone said “2 members  of the FF family are getting married today, wish them luck.”  When I read that I cried for the first time of many that day.  See, just like family.  I just love this place.
